In the article Osvatina - pagan fire the author describes the almost forgotten custom of Osvatina, that is, the burning of stumps in spring. The custom used to be widespread in some areas of the western part of the Gorica region (Kanalski Kolovrat and Goriška Brda). In antiquity Osvatina used to be an important custom as winter turned to spring and was associated with some other jobs.
